Abstract

A short (3–5 steps) synthesis of a racemic and diastereomeric mixture of Matsucoccus sex pheromones (1–3) is described. The key reaction is Lewis acid-mediated cyanation of symmetric tertiary alcohol 6 to afford common intermediate 7. © 1997, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
