Abstract
Many facets of the topic are dealt with, including the interaction between aborigines and insects and the early history of Australian entomology, in particular the records of the early explorers. A survey of the present numbers and distribution of professional entomologists is reported and some information presented on the likely recruitment of entomologists over the next decade. Other matters dealt with include the stability of our insect fauna, the impact on it of DDT usage and the need to preserve representative habitats. Figures are given for pesticide usage in Australia and pest management is seen as the most desirable approach for the future. Copyright © 1971, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
