Abstract

The Tamazight (Berber) language in Morocco is today at an important turning-point in its history. It has benefited from a context favorable to its revitalization for some ten years. This article analyses the aims and strategies underpinning the process of planning for the language's status and corpus in the framework of the new state policies recognizing and nurturing language diversity in education and the media. The approach taken by linguists in corpus planning is intended to be compositional and alive to both their unity and their diversity. In practical terms, it is methodical and flexible keen to build on factors of convergence in the deep structures of the system, and attentive to divergences shown by surface structures bound to geolectal reality.
