Abstract

Adidas used the 1998 English team's Commonwealth Swimming Trial, held in Sheffield, UK, to launch its all-in-one body swimsuit. Made using DuPont's Lycra Power concept the finished textile uses the Meryl microfibre polyamide and has a Teflon coating to further reduce drag. The suit successfully reduced swimming times and also relaunched Adidas into the competition swim suit market.
