Abstract

This paper reflects the present o fpolitical Islam and Cultural Islam in recent Papua. The him groups ofIslamic movements sign that number ofMoslempopulation isgrowing in line with the coming ofthe Moslem immigrantfrom other areas of Indonesia. The consequences arefacilities such as mosques, Islamic institutions, Islamic schoolsI educations are increasing. The Papuan Moslem Assembly which represents the indigenous moslem organisations discourages the newly came Islamic organisations such as Hisbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), Salafi, even Lasker Jihad, to utilise the hardline links and teachings in preaching (dakwah). From the encounter side or non Muslim, indigenous Papua and particularly Christian that phenomena leads to the 'Is/ami^ation” which is warning o f the peace building. This paper also suggests to create a friendly teachingsI mission and to move closely the dakwah into the local/indigenouspeople within community. The diversity ofPapuan identity calls the Islamicpreachers to have more respects and cultural understanding during the teachings.
