Abstract
This study uses the gap-analysis technique in order to investigate what the greatest needs of secondary school leaders in Cyprus are in terms of pre- and in-service education. More specifically, the study attempted to investigate the following three questions: (1) Which are the most important areas so that secondary school leaders can be considered effective? (2) Where do the greatest needs for improvement lie? (3) What suggestions can be made for improvements in the education and/or in-service training for these school leaders? Results indicated that the greatest needs for improvement exist in the following areas: programme and curriculum renewal and management; Special Education administration; school improvement; and the use of developmental evaluation techniques. © 1997 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
