Abstract

“Sara” represents a revolutionary approach in personalised care, embedded within a smart mirror to enable active and healthy ageing. This chapter examines the potential and developmental pathways of smart mirrors and their assistants, like Sara, highlighting their capacity to integrate advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning for personalised health solutions. Despite their promising capabilities, the application of smart mirrors in effective health monitoring and lifestyle management is still being developed. This chapter evaluates the essential technological advancements necessary for Sara to effectively address the needs of older adults, with an emphasis on personalisation, privacy, and user engagement. Moreover, the chapter explores how improvements in technology, such as increased accessibility and enhanced user interfaces, could promote broader adoption and continuous use among the ageing demographic. Through potential case studies and theoretical scenarios, this chapter demonstrates the potential role that fully developed smart mirrors could play in supporting the health and well-being of older adults. The chapter concludes by exploring the future directions to transform smart mirrors from innovative concepts to essential health support tools.
