Abstract

Endothelial cells are a structurally and functionally heterogenous population of cells. In this communication examples of in vitro and in vivo models of endothelial research are presented. The origin of endothelial cells, their heterogenous phenotype and their role in tumor pathology, angiogenesis and inflammation are briefly addressed.
