Abstract

The production of nanofibers with specific properties by electrospinning has attracted significant attention for antibacterial applications. Electrospun nanofibers incorporated with antimicrobial silver agent have been synthesized with antimicrobial capability against S. aureus bacteria. Chitosan solution was prepared by dissolving chitosan in acetic acid following by stirring for 24h at room temperature. Different amount of silver were added to chitosan solutions. The crystalline structure, thermal, morphologies and nanostructure properties of the sample are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive analysis of SEM-EDX and thermal gravimetry-differential scanning calorimeter (TG-DSC) respectively. Ag-doped chitosan nanofibers were successfully prepared by electrospinning. The antibacterial activity of Ag-doped chitosan nanofibers were examined on S.aureus bacteria.
