Abstract

Under its Geographic Information Program, the Working Group on Geodesy and Geographic Information of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR WG-GGI), presently part of the Standing Scientific Group on Geoscience of the SCAR, has established the King George Island Geographic Information System (KGIS) project. The goal of the project is to integrate this island’s spatial data into the Antarctic digital database. The project’s tasks include developing a standard spatial data model, obtaining and integrating spatial data sets and providing a www interface for the data. The database is applicable to environmental management and to multi-disciplinary research projects.
