Annual subscription rates

Abstract

Individual subscriptions are £28 sterling per year (4 issues) within the UK. Overseas subscribers should add £5 sterling postage and packing for delivery within the EU or £8 sterling for the rest of the world. Packs of 10 copies (each copy containing 4 issues) are available for £200 sterling. All orders should be sent to the SEDA Office, either with payment or official order. NB SEDA members automatically receive copies of Educational Developments. pedagogically conventional, with the 'VLE as notes dump' model being prevalent, as confirmed by JISC surveys (JISC, 2005). However, the available tools and the simplicity with which students can use them have changed. Five years ago there was nothing online that most students had access to that could compete with an average VLE; now online spaces such as Facebook have more functionality than all but the most cutting-edge systems. The metaphors of these systems are different, they focus on social aspects and personalisation. The 'online' experience of students now entering higher education, and their expectations of how they will use technology to support their own learning, may be quite different and this distinction potentially changes the model for applying a VLE to the learning process. What do our learners look like? What does it means to be a learner in the twenty-first century? There are lots of new ideas being put forward and several commentators are also suggesting new learning theories. At the centre of the discussions is the role that technology now plays in a learner's journey. In his paper, 'Connectivism: a learning theory for a digital age', George Siemens (2008) asserts: 'Technology is altering (rewiring) our brains. The tools we use define and shape our thinking.'
