Abstract

Data from the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) in 2018 showed an increase in smartphone and tablet users to access the internet, namely 83.44% of the total population exposed to the internet. In Indonesia, more than 50% of gadget users are teenagers under 25 years old. Excessive use of gadgets for a high duration can cause anxiety (Nomophobia) which is a feeling of fear of being away or being separated from a mobile phone or smartphone. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the duration of gadget use and anxiety in adolescents in RW 03, Siteaeur Village, Bojongloa Kidul District. This type of research is quantitative, with a cross sectional approach. The number of samples is 76 people, using random sampling technique. The instrument used is the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was performed using chi-square. The results showed that almost all respondents used gadgets with a high duration of 61 people (80.3%), and most of the respondents experienced severe anxiety, namely 43 people (56.6%). Bivariate analysis showed that the p-value was 0.026 <0.05, which means that there is a relationship between the duration of using gadgets and the anxiety of teenagers in RW 03 Siteaeur, Bojongloa Kidu District. It is recommended for teenagers to be able to control themselves in using gadgets so they are not addicted
