Abstract

Objective To review new imaging technology potentially useful in the clinical practice of laryngology. Hypothesis Narrow band imaging, iScan (Pentax Medical Company, Montvale, NJ), optical computed tomography, and confocal microscopy have potential value for enhancing diagnosis of laryngeal pathology. Design Literature review. Methods Literature search of computer databases including MEDLINE and PubMed. Results A review of 50 articles suggests that new imaging technologies may enhance clinical diagnostic capabilities. Conclusion The probable value of new imaging technologies suggests that further research is needed to refine these technologies and define their clinical efficacy. © 2013 The Voice Foundation.
