Abstract

Objective: To discuss complications and preventive measures, as well as the removal conditions associated with the use of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters, in the intra-hospital context from the perspective of the nursing team's knowledge. Methods: Exploratory-descriptive investigation, mixed-method research, carried out in a private hospital (MG-Brazil), from March to May/2021, with 114 nursing professionals, using Google Forms. The following data were collected: Professional's characterization, knowledge's profile and evaluation of complications, preventive measures and removal conditions associated with the use of the catheter. Results: The professional profile reveals signs of how nursing job is precarious and the participants' knowledge demonstrates access to the main complications of using the device, prevention measures, as well as the conditions that justify its removal. Conclusion: There is evidence of the needed educational interventions, aiming an improvement of the safe practice to the professional and to the patient, care quality and excellence of care in the health institution.
