Silver Nitrate (AgNO3) Solution Toxicity in Balb-c Mice Based on SGPT and SGOT Level

Abstract

Silver nitrate (AgNO3) is often used in the health sector as an antimicrobial material. Effects on organisms exposed to silver nitrate can result in toxic accumulation in the liver. This study aims to determine the effect of silver nitrate toxicity tests on SGPT and SGOT levels in Balb-c mice. The experimental animals used in this study were 20 Balb-c mice with body weight 25-30 grams and age 2-3 months with the treatment period for 14 days. The treatments given consisted of groups K-(without induction), P1 (100 μg/ml), P2 (200 μg/ml), P3 (300 μg/ml), P4 (400 μg/ml). SGPT and SGOT levels were observed using spectrophotometric methods. Data were analyzed using the One Way ANOVA test with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the induction of silver nitrate solution in Balb-c mice with treatment dose of P4 (400 μg/ml) and an induction volume of 0.5 ml caused toxicity in mice which was marked by an increase in SGPT and SGOT levels.
