Abstract

The present study was carried out on 50 patients of Chronic renal failure (CRF), Majority of CRF patients had high frequency hearing loss, but inner ear changes were found to be irreversible even after dialysis. All cases had cochlear lesion. No relationship could be established between the level of blood urea, creatinine, serum potassium, serum calcium and blood pressure with the severity of the impaired hearing. A direct correlation was seen between increasing hyponatraemia and impaired hearing. No direct relationship could be made between blood pressure and epistaxis, but all the cases had raised blood urea. © 1997 Association of Otolaryngologists of India.
