Abstract

The classic discovery that various diseases are caused by microorganisms occurred in the twilight of the nineteenth century and symbolized a milestone in the history of infectious diseases. In 1879, Louis Pasteur demonstrated the link between microbiological organisms and puerperal sepsis.
