Abstract

Selecting the right treatment for the right pavement at the right time is fundamental to pavement preservation success. This research aimed to develop a data-driven decision-making framework for selecting pavement preservation strategies and thereby provide an analytical foundation to enhance and update “Iowa’s Pavement Preservation Guide”. The research utilized the pavement performance, road characteristics, and preservation project data from Iowa DOT’s databases to develop a pavement performance profile before and after different preservation treatments, and this evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment methods in enhancing pavement performance. The results were used in a simple economic analysis framework to assess the economic viability of preservation methods in light of their effectiveness levels.
