Moment of truth

Abstract

The author reports on the 15th World Apparel Convention of the International Apparel Federation, held in Sun City, South Africa, November 1999. The country's textile and clothing producers were in optimistic mood after key advances in trade agreements with both the US and the EU. The Convention provided considerable insight into the opportunities and obstacles they would meet in attempting to integrate their industry into the global market. The full programme of the two-day event is sketched.
