Abstract

Secondary flow in the vicinity of a vibrating sphere was studied. The critical condition, where the outer circulation vanished, was expressed by (formula presented) where a is the amplitude and d is the diameter of a sphere. The measured thickness of inner circulation η was expressed by (formula presented) Furthermore, it was found that the flow pattern around a vibrating sphere was determined by four parameters. A chart that shows the flow behavior using the four parameters is also presented.
