The paper offers a revision about the current state of the component of educational organisations, the so-called leadership. After a conceptualization, theoretical and historically based on the analysis of the abundant existing scientific production, the concept is then characterised in the paper by these features: it is a kaleidoscopic, integrative, prescribed, coveted, ambiguous-deceitful and competent term, divorced from the practice.
