Abstract

Research at M. I. T. to find methods for reducing cost of multistory steel-frame construction resulted in '%'staggered truss'%' structure framing system which reduces tonnage of steel required for high-rise apartment houses by substantial amounts; push-up concept involves building of foundations and other substructure as in normal construction and construction of remainder of building in reverse sequence; steel placement, and bolting and/or welding occurs at or near ground level; as soon as one level of building is assembled at grade, it is jacked up and next lower level of framework is assembled in place below previous lift.
