Abstract

A model for propagation of arches on cubic lattices, to simulate the internal mobility of grains in a dense granular system under shear is proposed. In this model, the role of the arches in granular transportation presents a non-linear dependence on the local values of the stress components that can be modeled geometrically. In particular, we study a modified Couette flow and were able to reproduce qualitatively the experimental results found in the literature. © 2010 IOP Publishing Ltd.
