Internationalization is a global process of acquiring an international character by all elements of the educational environment at university. It is generally divided into internationalization abroad and internationalization-at-home, but the boundaries between these two concepts are blurred. Analysis of the scientific literature conducted during the study made it possible to clarify the differences between two types of internationalization, and also helped to identify the main stages of internationalization-at-home. Accompanying and facilitating the implementation of the internationalization strategy within the university is one of the most acute problems of the modern university community, but it has great influence on the university staff and their professional activities. In order to track how the processes of internationalization-at-home affect the change in the professional activities of the university faculty, as well as to identify the main areas of activity that have undergone changes due to the internationalization process, an analysis of the needs and difficulties of employees of two national research universities of Russia was conducted. During it, the main problems related to the ongoing transformations were clarified, which dictate the further development trajectory in the field of advanced training for the scientific and teaching staff of universities - writing articles for journals indexed in international databases, using English in the professional and scientific fields, international requirements for the programs, as well as technical support for the educational process.
