Abstract

In this work, a rectangular MPA with a I-shaped CSRR loading in the ground plane, is proposed. The I-shaped CSRR created in the ground plane, results in a shift in resonant frequency and antenna gives dual band operation, resonating in X-band at 10.2GHz and 11.6GHz. The simulation results demonstrated a significant increase in the fractional bandwidth (8.39%, with the centre frequency of 11.6GHz and 2.69%, with the centre frequency of 10.2GHz). Furthermore, the antenna has simulated gain of 4.88dB at 11.6GHz and 2.1dB at 10.2GHz. The proposed antenna shows good impedance matching. The size of proposed antenna is 0.425λo × 0.541λo × 0.062λo (i.e., 11mm×14mm×1.6mm). The most common application of patch antenna in X-band is radar communication.
