Abstract

The bullwhip effect is a phenomenon that causes inefficiencies in supply chains. The aim of this paper is to investigate on the different impact on the performance of a supply chain of two bullwhip solving techniques: the (S, R) smoothing replenishment policy and collaboration practices. Performance is evaluated through a comprehensive set of metrics, aimed at assessing the order rate stability, the inventory stability, the robustness of the system and the customer service level. Results are analysed both from a technical perspective and from the managerial point of view.
