Abstract

A new antioxidative glucoside (la) was isolated from the leaves of oregano (Origanum vulgare L.), one of the herbal spices belonging to the Family Labiatae. The structure of la was determined as 4-(3,4-dihydroxybenzoyloxymethyl)phenyl-fl-D-glucopyranoside on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence. In addition, the structure was confirmed by synthesizing its acetyl derivative (lb). © 1987, Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry. All rights reserved.
