Abstract
After a brief introduction dedicated to the analysis of the reasons behind lawsuits against doctors, a detailed study of medical - legal work is realized. In this part the published guidelines regarding medical - forensic methodology are analysed, followed by comments on the essential qualities that are required in the forensic expert. The legal framework within which forensic work is carried out is also reviewed. Such work is analysed in the light of the law of criminal prosecution and the new law of civil prosecution. Finally, practical guidelines are given on the elaboration and structure of expert reports in the cases that are analysed.
