Abstract
Mathematical reasoning ability is the ability to think in attracting and inferring information relevantly. Every student needs to be encouraged to master mathematical reasoning skills. Mathematical reasoning will be felt if it is often trained with math practice questions related to everyday life such as social arithmetic material. However, in fact, based on OECD data (2019) the results of the 2018 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) show that the mathematics scores of Indonesian students are still low, namely 379 out of 490, especially in algebraic content. To solve these problems, the government is trying to implement the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM). This study aims to describe the mathematical reasoning ability of students in solving AKM numeracy questions for social arithmetic material class VIII of junior high school. The subjects of this study were class VIII.8 students of SMPN 53 Palembang consisting of 32 students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection uses written test and interviews, that are analyzed and described descriptively. The result obtained that the student’s mathematical reasoning abilities are high as 10 students, medium as 13 students, and low as 9 students. Based on the results, it can be concluded that from the students’ mathematical reasoning ability after the research was carried out in class VIII.8 of SMPN 53 were quite good with an average 50,73. The indicator that appears most often is doing mathematical manipulation, while the indicator that rarely appears is checking the validity of an argument.
