Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of literature search training in MEDLINE database and BVS Search Portal, in the information behavior of postgraduate students and residents of the Health Campus of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. We use the technique of critical incident to assess the impact of training in professional activities and educational activities of postgraduate students and residents. We conducted a descriptive basic research using quantitative and qualitative approach. The research used a non-random sample consisting of the postgraduate students and residents who agreed to participate in training with a workload of 15 hours. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire, using the technique of critical incident, responded by students between four and five months after the end of training. We compare two search situations reported by students that took place before and after training. We found that the knowledge and skills acquired by the students were transferred to their professional and educational activities. The use of critical incident technique proved to be very effective in assessing the impact of training in professional activities of the participants and we hope that its use in this work motivate other researchers to use it.
