Abstract

Lithium batteries have been widely used as a power source for numerous small devices such as mobile phones and laptop computers. Recently, the lithium battery is expected to be used as a power source for electric vehicles. For the electric vehicles application, an improvement of energy and power densities and safety is required. In this review, a brief explanation of structure and mechanism of the lithium batteries are given at first. Then, recent researches on cathode and anode materials to improve the energy and power densities are described. Some studies on solid electrolyte and all-solid-state battery are also introduced.
