Abstract

Digital innovations influence every aspect of our lives in this increasingly digitalized world. This chapter provides a brief overview of the conceptual foundations of digital innovation and articulates the primary goal of this Handbook—to contribute to building a transdisciplinary understanding of digital innovation by bringing together a diverse set of leading scholars and their distinct perspectives. Such a transdisciplinary effort is critical to better understand the nature, process, and consequences of digital innovation—both as a holistic system that spans individual, firm, and industry levels and as a broader societal phenomenon. The authors also explain the organization of the Handbook and provide a brief description of the different sections and chapters.
