Abstract
This study aims at describing and comparing scores for quality of life (QOL) among elderly patients with hypertension (HA) on the basis of sex, age, and number of comorbidities. Cross-sectional household survey-type study, which interviewed 1,303 elderly in Uberaba, MG, Brazil. Data were collected from August to November, 2008, using the WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-OLD. There has been descriptive analysis, Student t test and ANOVA F-Tukey (p<0.05). Females predominated as well as the 60-70 - year age group. The highest score of QOL was for social relations and functioning of the senses, and the lowest for physical and autonomy categories. Women had lower scores at psychological, death, and dying categories. The elderly aged 80 and older have lower scores at physical functioning, functioning of the senses, and autonomy. The highest number of morbidities was associated with the lowest scores in the physical, psychological, social relations, and autonomy categories.
