Abstract

The open literature on organ-pipe type oscillations generated in various types of combustion systems by the flame, or the combusion process, is reviewed. The driving mechanisms proposed in various instances are outlined. Some general remarks are made, based on the survey, concerning the mathematical formulation of mechanisms to explain the oscillations in particular cases.
