Abstract

Information on average gestation period, and physical changes and mass gain during pregnancy in Aardvarks Orycteropus afer has been collected from pregnancies observed at Brookfield Zoo, Illinois. The results show that the actual gestation period for this species may be greater than previously thought. Pregnancy in Aardvarks appears to be difficult to detect using visible physical changes in the ♀ so average mass gains measured at 2 month intervals are presented as a better means of monitoring gestation. © 2017 Wiley.
