Rivers and plants / engineering and agronomy: the intensive agriculture project in western Cordoba (1880-1930)

Abstract

This article analyzes the interrelation between the emergence of a hydraulic bureaucracy, the institutional consolidation of agronomy and the biophysical characteristics of the hydrography of western Cordoba, through the study of a river system in Córdoba between 1880 and 1930, it highlights the way in which these modernizing projects, were initially unable to achieve their transforming objectives, given the obstacles within the state structure itself and the limits that emerged from the basin's own socio-natural system, with its long history of cultural practices and specific dynamics.
