Abstract

Activities in the waters of Sibolga Beach produce various kinds of pollutant materials, both organic and inorganic, which directly or indirectly enter the waters causing a decrease in water quality. Contaminated waters will cause the emergence of microorganisms, one of which is heterotrophic bacteria. If a water has been polluted with organic matter, the higher the population of heterotrophic bacteria. This study aims to determine the presence of heterotrophic bacteria that act as decomposers of organic matter in the waters of Pandaratan Beach, Sarudik District, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province and to find out what genera of heterotrophic bacteria are found. The stages in this study were isolation, purification, morphological characterization, gram staining, and physiological characterization in the form of biochemical tests. The results of the study obtained 11 bacterial isolates, 8 isolates were classified as heterotrophic bacteria. 6 genera of Bacillus, 1 genus Micrococcus, and 1 genus Pseudomonas, and 3 isolates were declared not classified as heterotrophic bacteria. The conclusion of this study was found 8 isolates of heterotrophic bacteria in the waters of Pandaratan Beach, Sarudik District, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province with the genera Bacillus, Micrococcus, and Pseudomonas.
