Abstract
Introduction: Quercetin (3, 3’4’, 5.7-pentahydroxyflavone) within Moringa oliefera leaves is known to prevent cellular damage and dermal inflammation due to ultraviolet light exposure. However, its administration in Nanoemulgel form, which gives the cosmetics a good stability and compound release, is not yet evaluated. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize and develop a nanoemulgel sunscreen preparation containing Moringa oliefera leaves. Methods: Design and optimization using simplex lattice design were performed. The optimum formulation for three independent variables involved propylene glycol-(X3), tween 20-(X2), and oleic acid oil-(X1) with a percentage ratio at 11.31; 77.50 and 11.19, respectively. Results: The results showed that the optimum nanoemulgel formulation yielded an SPF value at 33.35, with a percentage of transmittance at 88.03. The emulsification time was recorded at 19.19s with droplet diameter at 138.0-nm with zeta potential at-37.1mV and polydispersity index at 0.537. Conclusion: This study concluded that the moringa leaf nanoemulgel sunscreen was successfully formulated with a high SPF value.
