Abstract
People use books in vastly different ways. Some start at the front, some at the back, and some open to a random place and begin to read. I have noticed that very few people ever read anything before "Chapter I." This was brought home to me recently when I read a book which had1. a dedication,2. an advertisement,3. a table of contents,4. a preface,5. appendices (A & B) to the Preface,6. a preface to the Third Edition, and 7. an Introduction.
