Abstract
The shot noise of open chaotic cavities defined by two quantum point contacts (QPCs) in series was experimentally studied. In the regime of noninteracting electrons, a Fano factor F = S/2e|I| of 1/4 was measured as theoretically predicted for symmetric cavities. Further, heating effects due to inelastic electron-electron scattering were determined by changing the opening of the contacts as well as the size of the cavity.
