Construction and validity of an instrument for assessing the competencies of resident nurses in neonatology

Abstract

Objectives: to construct and validate the content of an instrument for assessing the competencies of resident nurses in neonatology. Methods: this descriptive study involved the construction and validity of a measuring instrument. Stage 1 involved a literature review to establish the conceptual framework, define competencies and objectives, and select and organize items. Stage 2 involved developing the instrument. Stage 3 involved seven expert judges who validated the content using the Delphi technique, with a Content Validity Index greater than or equal to 80%. Results: the score given by expert judges, in the first round, ranged from 0.572 to 1.00, with an average of 0.901 and a standard deviation of 0.161, and in the second round, it showed a value of 1.00. Conclusions: the instrument for assessing the competencies of resident nurses in neonatology has had its content validated, and its psychometric properties can now be tested.
