Abstract

Until now, the habit of reading is still difficult to do. Reading can fulfill information needs and increase knowledge. For this reason, there needs to be encouragement or motivation to foster people's love of reading. Factors that can influence are a supportive social environment such as a community. One of the communities in the field of literacy is the Midnight Reading Club. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the Midnight Reading Club has an effect on increasing community reading motivation. This research uses a quantitative descriptive approach with a sample size of 94 respondents taken by random sampling of Midnight Reading Club members. The data in this study were obtained through a questionnaire survey using a research instrument based on the theory of virtual communities and reading motivation, then analyzed using a simple linear regression test. The results of this study indicate that Midnight Reading Club has a significant and positive effect on increasing reading motivation among the community, as evidenced by a significance value of 0.000 or less than 0.05 with a coefficient of determination of 0.313, or interpreted as variable x has an influence on variable y by 31.3%. Hopefully, this research can generate inspiration and new methods in an effort to increase reading motivation in today's millennial generation.
