Abstract

This contribution to the journal Group. Interaction. Organisation. (GIO) presents the Digitalisation Compass as a socio-technical design aid for managers in the context of digitalisation projects. Although socio-technical research has experienced a small renaissance in recent years in the course of the debate about Industry 4.0 and AI, hardly any socio-technically based leadership concepts and associated design aids have been developed so far. Based on the premise that leadership is essentially a form of interaction work, the contours of such a concept are outlined and an adaptable instrument is presented in the form of the digitalisation compass. It enables managers to identify design options and their consequences for work at an early stage in a participatory manner when introducing technology.
