Abstract

This book which describes Canada is divided into five sections. The first deals with nature, covering: landscape and climate; natural resources; and flora and fauna. The section on history covers: the first inhabitants; and the coming of the Europeans. The next area discussed is politics and the economy, covering: federal Canada; social and political change; and the development of the economy. A short chapter is included on each province plus the territories of the Yukon, Western Territory and Nunavut. The final section highlights current problems in Canada and perspectives on the future, looking at the questions of immigration, the dealings with the Indians and Inuit, francophone versus anglophone, the protection of nature and economic growth and Canada's role in world politics.
