Abstract

Administered the Taken Test of Parental Attitudes toward Child Rearing. Human Ss: 15 normal female Japanese adults (mothers). 15 Japanese infants and preschool children (aged 1 yr 4 mo to 5 yrs 1 mo) (mild or moderate mental retardation). 15 mother–child pairs were observed. Mothers' speech during mother–child interactions was analyzed. The tendency to reject, as measured by the Taken Test, was correlated with maternal speech indices relating to rejection of the child.
