Abstract
The aim of this article is to study the relation between the structure of values and masculinity and femininity psychological constructs. To this purpose, in a sample using subjects of both sexes, we have related the scores obtained in masculinity (M), feminity (F), and masculinity-feminity (M-F) scales, from the Earlier Personal Attributes Questionnaire (Spence y Helmreich, 1978), with the priorities obtained for the terminal and instrumental value, assessed with the Rockeach Value Survey (Rokeach, 1973). The results of this comparison between the self-concept for gender and the structure of values confirm the general knowledge that the agentic/instrumental values are associated with masculinity, and the communal/expressive ones are associated with femininity. We have also included some considerations about gender and values in relation to age. These results are discussed from the point of view of self-concept. The idea that the evaluative self-descriptions are neither neutral nos objective, but marked by the affective signification they have for the subject, is reinforced. © 1989 by Aprendizaje.
