Abstract

The author reflects on the potential significance of interleukin (IL) polymorphisms to clinicians. According to the author, IL are a group of cytokines that play an important role in the immune system. He notes that 35 various ILs are involved in an inflammatory response. He points out that inflammatory responses in a dental implant treatment usually leads to disappointment. He stresses the need for clinicians to be aware that some IL polymorphisms have an effect on a proposed treatment.
