Abstract
The history of consulting is briefly traced. In particular, the activities of the International Association of Consulting Engineers are recalled. The present situation in this respect is surveyed, in particular the activities of the FIDIC and the German Association of Independent Consulting Engineers. Problems of technical assistance, the changing market and the Eastern market are considered.
