Abstract

Social integration among adolescents is crying out for a boost in skills linked to developing their personalities. This research aims to diagnose training needs for students in the first year of the Initial Vocational Qualification Programmes in the province of Gipuzkoa. Students on this programme come from different education centres but they all have one characteristic in common: they all failed to pass obligatory secondary education. The research carried out is fundamentally exploratory and descriptive. The results obtained from this research indicate that the most pressing training needs for students in the Vocational Initiation Centres focus on developing skills linked to the world of work (learning a trade, job seeking skills, finding out about job market opportunities, etc.) and with emotional (self-esteem, emotional balance) and relational aspects (resolving conflicts, tolerance, learning to criticise and receive criticism, empathy, etc.).
