Abstract

Anxiety is an unclear and pervasive worry related to feelings of uncertainty and helplessness. Anxiety is often experienced by children with hospitalization. Clay play therapy can be used to minimize anxiety. The purpose of this study was to describe play clay therapy to reduce anxiety levels in children with hospitalization. The research design was descriptive with the nursing process approach. The study was conducted on April 8 to 12 2019. The study population was children who experienced anxiety. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. Five research subjects were selected according to the criteria: preschool children (3-6 years), hospitalized, anxiety level 4-10 (moderate) on Aidar scale, willing to be research subjects, able to communicate verbally, not suffering from fractures on hand, the condition is compos mentis, parents can read and write, are willing to participate in play therapy activities from beginning to end. Assessment data: children want to go home, afraid if injected. Observation found that the child appeared nervous, crying, sweating cold, nervous when talking, looked pale, often urinated, limp. TD: 100/60 mmHg - 110/60 mmHg, N: 80 x / m - 100 x / m, RR: 22 x / m, S: 37,5oC-37,8oC. Nursing diagnosis is anxiety associated with hospitalization. Nursing actions, namely playing clay therapy, are performed once for 15-20 minutes in 3 days. Evaluation data in general clay can reduce anxiety levels in children with a previous anxiety score of 10 to 4. Clay play therapy is effective in overcoming anxiety problems in children with hospitalization.
